Wet roads: what actually keeps you on them

Water depth, speed and tread depth decide whether your tires cut through or float. You can only control two of those in the moment, so slow down early.

If the steering suddenly goes light, ease off the throttle and hold the wheel straight. Braking or steering hard while floating is what turns a slide into a spin.

Worn wipers and a hazy windshield cost you more reaction time than most people think. Both are cheap fixes before the season starts.
